Overall you emulated your visual and layout model quite well. Since your visual model does not have a lot of white space I would suggest either tightening your elements or add more. Also, you could section UXO bomb information and UXO casualties into 2 separate sections. Adding more labels to Laos and ocean/gulfs could help eliminate white space. In addition adding more text to help give context would help with the whitespace.

Andre pointed out that my visual model didn;t have a lot of white space and that it was taken up a lot by color as well. So I decided to resize and rearrange a lot of my elements and to fill in the rest of the white space, I filled it in text to explain about some of the elements. Andre also suggested sectioning off information differently, so i separate the top to be about the UXO, the middle to be on human casualties, and the bottom to be relationship during the war.

I like the second one a lot more since it's aligned and cleaner but if you're going to use your layout model you would have to move your elements around also for your lay out you would probably need to fit the elements into 2 boxes and have things left aligned and add padding. Your relationship element is kinda too big compared to other elements. Your timeline could be bigger too since the font is really small and im not sure if some of the subheader text is supposed to be bolded. The bottom part of your map could also be removed.

I decided not to use the second version even though Fion liked it more because I didn't feel like it fit my visual model with the vertical timeline not covering the entire right side. I also readjusted many of my elements and kept the relationship element big as I wanted it to fill the layout of the bottom of the page.Fion suggested making the timeline bigger, so I filled it to span from the top to the bottom on the right side of the page. I also fixed many of the text, including the header and subheader.

I chose not to remove the bottom part of my map because I felt that not including all parts of Thailand would not give correct context if I didn't put the entire map like the other countries. But I am still considering it as it takes up a lot of space.

EDIT: decided to cut it off give more space in order to increase size of map.

Bar under header should be moved up to account for the lack of text overall the infographic could use more text like everywhere. maybe Lao UXO casualties design could be resized a little bigger I feel like ur infographic has too much white space overall some of the text already on there might be too small to read when printed out

Kito suggested moving the header up as I didn't have text yet. So I made my own header instead of having a sample fill text and I also added text under the main header. I added text in many other places as well in order to fill up the white space. I redesigned many of my elements to take into account when printing out the poster as Kito has suggested and resized many of my texts to correctly emulate my model.

I like the look of the layout, you can really see it sectioned off. But the white space on the side of the map is bothering me slightly, maybe you could create a smaller map element then do something that like zooms into the map of Laos. The bomb element could also be colored to compliment the colors of the realistic picture because your visual model has those similar colors. The flags on the bottom could also possibly be recolored slightly to match with your colors more and maybe trying a left align for all the flags. Also, think about having a footer on the bottom, in that way, you can add more color to the bottom as your visual fills up the bottom with color.

Fred was a little concerned about the white space on the side of the map, so I decided to fill it back in with the part of te map I deleted. I decided not to make the map smaller because I want it to be emphasized more in my infographic. I also changed the colors on the bomb to match more with my realistic picture, that way they can compliment colors, and I also created a drop shadow on the frame of the picture to mimic my visual language. I tried recoloring the flags, and it seemed to work for the most part. I did not add a footer as my visual model did not include one, and I didn't want to resize any elements in order to fit it on the bottom.

I like the look of this better than your last one. But I don't like the colors on the bottom as much with the flags because the red is so much brighter than the other reds. The map could also be a little smaller so that the layout can be sectioned off better and have more padding. You could also try right-aligning the numbers element in the middle since the pie chart looks to be right-aligned.

Fion didn't like the colors of the flags on the bottom. I was hesitant at first to change them as they were their real colors, but I tried making the reds to be similar colors as my color model and it seemed to work well. I did not make the map smaller as it is what I want to emphasize. I didn't realign my numbers element as all my elements have the same alignment except for the timeline on the right.

Layout Element & Critiques

Critic #3: Estelle J

Overall, I like your infographic since the impact section is really vivid and contains lots of data and information. I have one suggestion for the "Lao Civil War" part, if you can resize the image, that will be better since I felt uncomfortable right now. The hidden part of this image is too much. Moreover, you can move the entire section to the left a little bit.

I resized the wording and the flags of the relationship model in order to fit more text in and keep the alignment the same. Resizing the header helped to give more leeway in dividing the two factions.

This layout should first be describing what the Secret War in Laos was. It should be showing the main weapon used in the war which are described as UXO's because it was not only the bombs during the war that caused the destruction, but the bombs that didn't explode as well, wich should be what is shown next. Right next to that is the locations where the bombs are most affecting the provinces in Laos and show the number of bombs to help emphasize the amount. Leading to the bottom should be more information on the overall Lao civil war, showing the two main factions involved as the secret war enveloped during the Lao civil war.

How this element emulates the layout models:  I didn't have a set layout in mind, but I did want the layout model to be more vertical as this layout follows that vertical aspect of a model with many of my elements being vertical as well. The toughest part about finding a good model to use was that I needed to fit a very long vertical model, one that is supposed fill the entire page, on to the layout.
