Like how I incorporated cartoonish and realistic aspects, nice job with shadows, make it smoother because you can see the edges that you cut out, bomb are round. The solder has smooth shadows, no sharp corners, incorporating red lines with 45-degree angles. The tail is sort of off because of the pixels missing, should either make both top and bottom with a similar outline or fill. Show internal of the bomb because it's just a shell, what’s actually causing the damage because its just a shell contains the explosives. Goes well with my visual language and what I'm trying to portray.

  • Side note: make the text have relation to my actual topic, maybe with ammunition with the unexploded bomb in the land to show maybe how to handle or approach an active bomb.

I chose to fix the tail that was missing the pixels to fit with my model and added interior to be able to show more of what the bomb is made of.  I also made the shadows on the bomb slightly rounder as the shadows on the visual language model did not have many straight lined shadows.

Maybe have a title with the section and the icon together. It’s good to structure it the same. Maybe incorporate big numbers with the leading red lines to help describe something. Good use of putting icon in front of the title. Maybe put a different color at the tip of the bomb make more realistic.

I chose to use my first version to make my revision and also plan to change the tip of the bomb to a different color for more realistic colors.

Like the shadowing and the leading lines to show the text. That it is realistic enough, but not too realistic like the soldier, the second one stood out because it depends on where you want to put it. If its different parts, go with first. Maybe add shading to the tail more. The shadow is good because of lighting, the bomb itself is round so straighter so straight line shadow is fine

I took in her feedback and added a bit of shadow to the tail to make the tail have a bit of 3d realistic effect while keeping its cartoonish look. By imaging shining a light onto the bomb, I create the shadow on a small area of the tail.

- The detail is good, looks similar to the visual model.
Maybe the red dot needs to be smaller like the model.

Jacob suggested making the dots on the leading lines look smaller because of the original model, so I created smaller dots at the end of the lines in order to not block off as much detail.

Critic #2: Andre

- There need to be more shadow and detail on the inside cluster to
make it look more realistic and look like its inside

Andre suggested adding more shadowing to make the bomb look more realistic, so I added slight shadowing to the bottom of the cluster, by imagining to shine a line from the top right, but I found difficulty in creating a more realistic look to the clusters inside.

Appearance Elements & Critiques

Critic #3: Sukhmam

- maybe add more detail to make it look more realistic. I like the detail of
show that the yellow in the front, maybe move the cluster area or shrink so that there
is more detail. The outline of the original model seems to be present, so maybe remove the outline from the bomb

Sukhman commented on how the yellow detail in front of the bomb looked good, so I took her critique and moved the cluster area up to be able to show more of that retial instead of hiding it behind the inside view.

revisions:

This image is showing a type of cluster bomb used in the secret war in Laos. The large bomb contains smaller bombs that break off after launch in order to damage a wide area. The image of the bomb is intended to suggest that the infographic will surround the use of these bombs, with the red text indicating a feeling of "danger."

How this element exploits the visual potential of appearance:  This is about a type of bomb called a cluster bomb. The back of the bomb is to indicate that it can either be launched or dropped from a plane.

How this element emulates the models:

To emulate my color model I used military colors for the bomb color, red line indicators, and black text.

To emulate my visual language model I created simple, yet detailed shading of my icon and create leading information lines.

To emulate my typography model I make the text thicker on the titles and used mainly black, red and white text. The text also contains sharp edges.
